Born in Glenburn, North Dakota on February 10, 1911, he entered St. Joseph Abbey in St. Joseph’s, Louisiana, in September 1931, professing his vows as a Benedictine monk in October of 1932. Father Michael was ordained by Archbishop Joseph Rummel on May 27, 1937. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Joseph’s College and a Master of Arts in Education from Creighton University. In 1945 he transferred his vows to Conception Abbey in Missouri and was prefect and teacher in the Seminary there for eleven years. In 1956 he came to Mount Michael where he worked as a prefect and teacher in the school. In 1967 he retired from teaching and was assigned to Stephen Indian Mission in South Dakota. He became associate pastor at St. Augustine’s Indian Mission in Winnebago, Nebraska, in 1972, a position he held for ten years. In 1982 he was assigned to St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, a position he held until his death. A vigil service was held at 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening, May 29th,
at Mount Michael. Burial was in the Abbey Cemetery.
