Construction Log - February 2008

February 8, 2008 - Friday; Almost but not Quite Finished!

The addition is nearly complete! The tile has been set except for a six square foot area in the basement where they ran out of tile. It should arrive soon. The private rooms are going through their 2nd round of checklists. The ceiling panels have been installed on the 1st and 2nd floors.

Today they should be working on installing the carpet in the community room. The electrical work is focusing on finishing the elevator work and then the last of the community room light fixtures and switches need to be completed.

Two things they are waiting on is the hallway carpet to be delivered and the railing for the deck. They had to redo the carpet order because the company messed up and didn't get the color correct so it had to be manufactured again. It should arrive next week. The railing is currently being made offsite and should be ready in a week or so.

The touch up work in the basement hasn't gotten very far yet but it should make headway next week. The outdoor lighting along the drive & sidewalks is a low priority and will be worked on later as the snow melts and it warms up. The retaining walls in back will also be extended in the spring after the ground thaws. Neither of these should interfere with the building inspection and clearance for the monks to move to their new rooms.

Moving Date? Hopefully spring break if things are ready. We need the blinds to be installed and new beds to arrive. Abbot Michael has encourage the monastic community to go through the addition sometime during this past week or next week and start thinking about what rooms they would like. After that a list will go around for the monks to start picking rooms according to seniority.
