The Guest House at Mount Michael is one way the monks continue to follow the Rule of Benedict. For 1500 years monasteries have been offering hospitality to all who come to the monastery. Opportunities for fellowship, good food, spiritual direction and retreat from life's hectic pace, for prayer and contemplation, are just a few of the many blessings people discover through MT. Michael's hospitality ministry.

The Guest House is located in the original farm house on what was once known as "Journeys End" farm. It was built by the Otte family around the early 1900's.

Mr. Rex Olson donated the house and property in 1952 for the founding of Mount Michael Abbey.

This inspiring icon prayer card/bookmark was
designed from a detail of a woodcut by Fr.
Daniel Lenz, O.S.B., of Mount Michael Abbey.

The prayer card measures approximately 2" by 5"
and is printed on natural-colored paper in rust-colored
ink. The prayer on the back of the card, which is lettered
in calligraphy by Abbot Theodore Wolff, O.S.B., (also
of Mount Michael  Abbey) reads:

"Inspire, O Lord, within your Church the spirit which our
Holy Father the Abbot obeyed, so that we too filled with
his spirit may love what he loved and teach what he taught.
Grant this through Christ the Lord.
Amen."

To make this unique icon and it's important prayer available to the public, we are
offering the cards at a cost of $5.00 per 100 cards.

A History of Conception Colony, Abbey & Schools by Edward E. Malone, O.S.B. This lovingly-crafted history of Mt. Michael's motherhouse in Conception, Missouri, gives a fascinating view of monastic life in the second half of the nineteenth century, up to the date of its publication in 1971. The author, now deceased, was a member of Mt. Michael Benedictine Abbey at the time of writing, and is remembered as a vibrant member of the community to this day. Anecdotes of immigrants, railroads, land purchases, mission work with Native Americans and the hardships of early Benedictine brothers and sisters fill the pages of this hard-bound book. Historic photos of Conception Abbey and its many monastic outreach ministries across the West and into Mexico reveal many of the rich Benedictine contributions to American religious and educational history.
