Summer
Storm!
The area was hit with a severe storm on
Friday evening. The monastic community was
preparing for Evening Prayer and the Camp
Saint John staff was set to finish a week
with approximately fifty campers. The storm
struck around 5:00 PM. The National Weather
Service who visited the campus on Saturday
estimated straight line winds of approximately
ninety to one hundred miles an hour with
rain and hail. All people on campus were
fine after the storm. (The Camp staff took
shelter with the campers in the Crypt [the
space below the Chapel] during the storm.)
Some trees were felled, many branches downed
throughout the campus and a significant portion
of the roof of the west-facing or older monastic
residence was torn off. The School appears
to have weathered the storm. Power was out
on campus from Friday evening through Saturday
evening. Clean-up and repairs will continue
in the weeks ahead.
The monastic community is grateful to the
volunteers who spent the day on Saturday
helping remove debris and branches. Be assured
of our prayers for those who assisted as
well as those who themselves are affected
by this latest storm.
