Journey's End Barn Has New Roof We are proud to report that the first step had been made in preserving the barn. A new roof was completed the last week of September. Indeed, we are grateful to so many who made this possible. Perhaps particular recognition is appropriate. Paul Dohmen, a cousin of Fr. John, is particularly interested in this project of preserving and nurturing. His artistry and generosity enabled us to hoist a new cupola to the center of the roof where it literally crowns the barn. In addition to the roof, we have been blessed with a new sign—JOURNEY’S END FARM. There are some famous photos of Rex Olson posing in front of the old sign that named his farm. One of these photos is where he is with a senator or two from Nebraska back
in the 1950s. The new sign is in stone, a donation from Ruth Hagemann, a sister of Fr. John. As we continue to preserve and nurture, we would like to announce that Journey’s End Farm will soon again be open for business on a regular basis. This time it will not be a business of cows, horses or pigs or corn and oats, but a flea market, dried flower arrangements and preserved vegetables and fruits, jellies and jams.
Ken’s Flowers of Millard have helped extensively with the flower arrangements. Their involvement in the project has helped Mount Michael considerably. The barn will be a on-going project. Electricity, siding, interior work are only a few necessities that are needed in to make the project workable and profitable. Nonetheless, we will continue to commit ourselves to preserving and nurturing. Lastly, we are also happy and proud to report that several possible monastic candidates have visited us and are continuing to keep in contact. These are good signs. Please stay in touch; please know of our gratitude and prayers; please continue to pray for us and support us. God’s blessings always, Fr. John Hagemann OSB |
