The Sisters are Coming!

Abbot Theodore and the Mount Michael Community are excited to announce that Mount Michael has agreed to provide approximately 6 acres of land to the Poor Clare Sisters of Omaha for a new monastery!
The Poor Clares current monastery is located next to St. Bernard's Parish on north 65th Street. The sisters are a contemplative order devoting their lives to an apostolate of prayer. A new location in Mount Michael's rural setting will enhance their prayer environment. The Monastery will be located on the Northern most portion of Mount Michael just north of what are called the gullies along Edgewater Road. People familiar with Mount Michael history will remember the location as the site of the box car or radio tower, neither of which exist today.

The Poor Clares history in Omaha is much longer than Mount Michael's. The sisters first came to Omaha in 1878. Their's was the first Poor Clare Monastery in the United States. You can read more about their history and order on their web page.

The sisters are just beginning their campaign to raise the funds necessary for building their new monastery so building is not immediately imminent. Both communities though are looking forward to the day when the disciples of Saints Benedict & Scholastica and Saints Francis and Clare can both call "Journey's End Farm" home.
