| One Postulant and Many Oblates | ||||||
People are drawn to Benedictine
life in many ways, some as monks and some as oblates. On Sunday October
8th Mount Michael Abbey saw some of each.
Bret Van Gorp began his postulancy which is the first step in seeking life as a Benedictine monk. He will be taking classes with several different monks as he learns more deeply about Benedictine life and will more closely follow a monastic schedule. Bret has been a guest of the monastery since early last summer and has been visiting Mount Michael for several years. During vespers five oblate novices made their oblation Russell Burge, Rev Greg Carlson, Steve McCarville, Dr. Michael Weaver, and Marianne Wehner. As oblates they seek to live their lives in the spirit of the Rule of Saint Benedict in association with Mount Michael Abbey. Three other individuals have become oblate novices Cheryl Bridges, Sarah Estes, and Alan Monteith. A very good website
