MOUNT MICHAEL MOURNS THE
LOSS
OF ONE OF THE FOUNDING MONKS
Fr. Benedict, the son of the late George and Teresa (Obert) Dohle, was born June 19, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri. Fr. Benedict served in the United States Army before joining monastic life. He served in the Army from January 1943 to February 1946 in the South Pacific. After his discharge from the Army, Fr. Benedict joined Conception Abbey September 2, 1948. He professed his first vows a year later, September 3, 1949 and professed his final vows September 3, 1952. Fr. Benedict was ordained to the priesthood on May 29, 1954 in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception by Cardinal J.P. Cody of Chicago. Fr. Benedict attended Conception College, earning Bachelor of Arts degree and completed his theological studies at Conception School of Theology. He received further education from Omaha University, Notre Dame, Utah State, and the University of Nebraska where he earned a master’s degree. Fr. Benedict was one of the founding fathers of Mount Michael. Fr. Benedict was Prefect in the school at Mount Michael for a number of years and served as superintendent from 1965 thru 1971. Fr. Benedict was a highly respected math teacher. In addition, Fr. Benedict served as Prior of Mount Michael for six years. Many students, alumni and families remember Fr. Benedict for his excellence as a math teacher and his commitment as a monk of Mount Michael Benedictine. Fr. Benedict was preceded in death by his parents George and Teresa and by brothers George, Bob, Jim, and John. He is survived by his brother Richard, his sisters Joan Schaan and Dolores Stuhlmann, numerous nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and his monastic community.
